A Monk Chic Bathroom

Kicking things off with my own primary bathroom reveal! With renovation costs sky-high on our 100-year-old home, my interior budget took a serious hit, so I had to get crafty with my choices.

When I sat down to design my own primary bathroom, I envisioned a space of complete relaxation—a retreat that felt like a spa in Mexico. To bring this vision to life, I used Surecrete on all the walls, creating a seamless, textured finish, and added exposed beams to the ceiling for warmth and character.

Since moving in, this bathroom has become a true highlight of our home. One design detail I’m especially proud of is the split-tile effect I used to visually divide the room. The key to achieving this look is sticking to a cohesive color palette. This approach allows you to incorporate a variety of materials while maintaining a harmonious feel. It’s a technique that offers flexibility without compromising on elegance.

  1. Mirror   -TIP : I bought our mirrors from Target, then I whitewashed them. A great little trick to use standing mirrors for your walls, you can take the hardware off and adjust to wall hardware.

  2. Pendant lights - same as above but theyre fabulous.

  3. Japanese wall sconce - bought these off Etsy but theyre no longer there. If you buy from here, let me know how it goes!

  4. Faucets - Love this company. I used them for my whole house especially if you’re doing wall mounts you want to make sure whats going inside the wall is made out of brass and not plastic!!!

  5. Egg Tub -  I bought our tub from a wholesale distributor that sells to Wayfair, I think this is the one.

  6. Knobs - These concrete knobs were the best feature to the custom vanity we did.

  7. bath towels - great towels for hot summer days! and if you buy multiple, we use them for everything, picnics, beach and pool towels.

  8. Tile - This tile really made the room and shower complete.

  9. Limestone Soap Dispenser - loving the Zara Home limestone collection! Great deals.

I also incorporated several arch elements for an architectural touch. When you're designing your spaces, these features can create truly special moments in your home, and adding them is like the icing on the cake. For example, exposed beams, arches, window panes, and trim details all contribute to the overall charm. While these elements can add up in cost, being strategic about how and where you use them is key to achieving a thoughtful and impactful design.

The vanity was custom-made, and I’m so glad I went for it. The countertops were crafted from a remnant I found, and luckily, I had just enough to create two built-in sinks. I do have a pros and cons list for my sinks, though: I have to admit, it’s MUCH easier to clean a ceramic sink. However, this sink looks so fabulous, and I love it so much that I’d rather admire it over a ceramic one any day. We all have our preferences, I suppose!
